BTS member Suga posts handwritten apology for DUI incident

Suga, a member of the K-pop group BTS, has posted a handwritten apology letter for his recent drunk driving incident in Seoul.
The 31-year-old, who is currently serving his mandatory military service as a social service agent, uploaded a photo of the letter onto BTS’ Weverse page on Sunday evening (Aug 25).
He had been questioned for three hours at the police station on Friday after being caught driving an e-scooter while intoxicated earlier this month. In the letter, Suga wrote that he sincerely apologised “for the disappointment that (his) behaviour has caused to (his) fans and those who have shown (him) love”.
He added: “I have made a big mistake and have forgotten my responsibility to repay everyone with actions worthy of the amount of love I have received.”
He went on to apologise for driving an electric scooter on the sidewalk after drinking on Aug 6, as well as for his hasty first apology posted on Aug 7. “I should have thought more deeply about my actions and have been more careful, but I did not.”
“Everything is my fault. My indiscretion has given everyone who cares about me a difficult time.”
He wrote that because of this incident, he has “hurt BTS’ name” and apologised to the rest of the members.
He also apologised to the fans. “I know it will be difficult to heal the wounds and repair the disappointment my fans feel with my words, so I am regretting my actions and will reflect on them with a heavy heart every day.”
He ended his letter by saying that he would “gladly accept any and all punishments” as well as “any criticism and reprimands”.
Suga was caught with a blood alcohol level of 0.227 per cent, which led to his licence being revoked. He is expected to be discharged from the military on Jun 21, 2025.
